During this phase, which can last for several years, hair actively grows from the papilla towards the surface of the skin. The Catagen stage follows as a short transitional period over several weeks when the follicle begins to shrink and detach from the papilla. The final phase is Telogen. During this period, lasting several months, hair rests and eventually falls out before being replaced by new hair growth. At any given point most of our hair (85%-90%) will be in its Anagen stage with a small percentage (1-2%) in Catagen and the remaining (10-14%) in Telogen. For optimal results when using IPL it is ideal to treat while in Anagen due to individual variations in hair cycle times and where on the body it is located. Generally 6-8 treatments are recommended with periods that follow the growth cycle and regularly take 12-24 months for completion.
